2.25 – The Goodbye Gossip Girl Recap
Source: SOAPnet.com
Since Gossip Girl broke the news of Serena’s arrest, she can’t shake the paparazzi and her mugshot’s on the cover of the Daily News. Serena just can’t wait until she’s done with high school and out of Gossip Girl’s range. But since Gossip Girl’s first ever post was about Serena back in the ninth grade, you have to wonder if she’ll get off that easy. Serena tells Blair that Chuck still loves her, Blair’s wondering whether to make it work with Chuck or just move on.
Jenny’s excited about graduation too because it means that the mean girls will finally be gone. But Blair says she’ll be choosing a predecessor to follow in her footsteps, so Jenny can look forward to two more years of high school hierarchy. The means girls say that Blair isn’t in charge, and they’re choosing a new queen based on who can get them the hottest gossip by midnight. Jenny doesn’t want to be queen, but she does want to change the way things are run at Constance.
At the ceremony, everyone’s feeling pretty optimistic about the future…until Gossip Girl sends out a blast with official labels for all our mains. “Nate Archibald: Class Whore. Dan Humphrey: The Ultimate Insider. Chuck Bass: Coward. Blair Waldorf: Weakling. Serena Van der Woodsen: Irrelevant.” Ouch!
Serena’s tired of Gossip Girl’s crap, and sets out to take her down. She and the gang deduct that Gossip Girl must be a student at Constance or St. Jude’s, and is probably in the same class as them too. At the graduation luncheon, Chuck pretends to make a speech, and Serena sends a text to Gossip Girl. And whose phone rings? It’s Eric’s boyfriend, Jonathan!
But Jonathan says he only hacked into Gossip Girl’s server so he could know what she knows. He shows them all the emails GG has received and not posted. Jenny spots one tidbit that’s juicy enough to win her the crown, and decides to go for it. Hello again, Lil’ J.
That night, all the teens go to a graduation party while Lily and Rufus stay in. They’ve been trying to figure out what to do with their relationship, but it isn’t until they relax with a few beers (and some pot Lily found in Chuck’s room!) that things feel right again between them. Rufus seizes the moment and proposes to Lily, offering her a beer wrapper for a ring. She happily accepts.
At the party, Jenny warns Blair that she knows Blair hooked up with Chuck’s , and she’s going to tell the mean girls. Blair tries to shrug it off, and pulls Chuck into the drawing room to get him to tell her how he feels (with a classy strip tease, of course). He’s just about to, when Gossip Girl sends her biggest blast ever. She found out Serena’s trying to take her down, so she’s dropping all her bombs at once. Everything that happened this season gets reported, and chaos ensues.
Chuck’s angry with Blair for sleeping with his uncle, she’s mad at him for sleeping with Vanessa, plus everyone finally figures out why Dan was dubbed “The Ultimate Insider”: He’s friends with Nate, he dated Serena, he got accepted to Yale, and he banged a teacher. He’s just about the most popular guy in school! Anyway, everyone’s blaming Serena for dragging them into this mess.
But Serena won’t give up. She tries to get Gossip Girl to meet with her, but the whole senior class shows up instead. They get another Gossip Girl blast revealing that she arranged for them all to be in one place. She says, “You want to meet Gossip Girl? Well look around you. You just did. I’m nothing without you. And while most high school friendships fade, it’s my hope that what happened today will bond you forever. Now that all my secrets are out, you have a clean slate…until college. Congratulations! I’m coming with you.” Oh Gossip Girl, what would we do without you?
Jenny’s dirt was useless after Gossip Girl spilled it, so the mean girls didn’t choose her as queen. But since Blair decides Jenny’s the one who really deserves it, she interrupts their little coronation ceremony and announces that she just sent all their secrets to Gossip Girl and their reps are ruined. She names Jenny the new Queen of Constance and even crowns her with a diamond headband. Will Lil’ J rule justly? We’ll just have to wait and see.
Serena’s leaving New York to travel for the summer when she gets a visit from Carter. Apparently she’s been paying him to track down her father, and he was spotted a week ago in Fiji. They take off to track him down, and we have no idea why!
Dan’s all set to go to NYU and is already hanging out in campus coffee shop with Vanessa for some reason. Nate shows up and says he wants to go backpacking with Vaness after all. (Yeah yeah, whatever.) Dan meets a mysterious dude named Scott who just transferred from Boston University (hmm … ) and when Dan leaves Scott takes out pictures of Lily and Rufus and puts them on the table. Wait, that’s long-lost-brother Scott! And he’s cute. Called it!
Dan gets a call from Georgina telling him she got the money so he can go to Yale now, but Dan says it’s too late and he’ll be at NYU for sure. Georgina says she’ll see him there. Then she hangs up and talks to the housing office, saying she’d like to room with her best friend Blair Waldorf. Now THAT’S some roommate drama.
Blair decides not to use all this gossip as an excuse to run away from her feelings for Chuck. She tells Chuck she LOVES him … and of course he freaks out and runs off to Europe. She’s all set to spend her summer contemplating broken dreams, but Chuck shows up unexpectedly with all her favorite things from the continent (French macaroons, German wool stockings, etc.) and says he LOVES her too! And they kiss and the music swells and it’s wonderful.
