Are we too focused on the “end game” to enjoy Gossip Girl?

Word on the street is The CW might want to take a shot at another teen drama: the prequel to Sex and The City, The Carrie Dairies. This has brought up an interesting idea (and a great question of the week) of are fans too focused on the end game?
Do you remember Gossip Girl episode 2.24 – Valley Girls? That was primed to be the pilot for a Gossip Girl spin off about the young life of Lily Rhodes set in the 80s which is pretty much what The Carrie Diaries would be. While the episode was great, could it really work? Sometimes Gossip Girl fans can’t help but root for Lily and Rufus, so does knowing how the story turns out really make that big of a difference?

But on the other hand, are we so focused on the end game that we don’t enjoy the show as it’s going on? Are we too concerned at when Chuck and Blair are going to get together and stay together to enjoy the journey of Prince Louis, Dair or just Team Blair?
Are we too busy wanting Nate and Serena or Serena and Dan to finally be together instead of watching Serena jump from guy to guy until she actually decides? Maybe Serena won’t end up with Dan or Nate. Joey didn’t end up with Dawson in the series finale of Dawson’s Creek and Ryan definitely didn’t live his life happily ever after with Marissa on The OC.
So does the end game cloud our judgement and really keep us from enjoying our television shows? Let me know what you think in the comments. This will definitely be discussed on the podcast!
