It’s time for TGAD’s newest thing. Each week we’re going to present two sides of an argument and you guys get to help us with the BATTLE OF THE WEEK. Tell us which argument was more convincing to you by voting the poll below (AFTER reading the arguments) and feel free to leave comments.
During the second half of Season 4 Blair and Dan started to develop a friendship. Throughout the seasons Blair and Dan have had their moments, but these moments were no big deal.
• The first time Dan and Blair ever spent any time together was in Bad News Blair where Blair opened up to Dan about her feelings. Dan also expressed to his dad in Season 1 about how he could not stand the type of person Blair is.
• In Season 2 Dan gave Blair some advice about Chuck and told her how she should just tell Chuck how she feels, but intentionally decided to sabotage Blair.
• In Season 3 Blair and Dan developed somewhat of a friendship. Blair had a moment of weakness and needed Dan’s help at a college party.
• In Season 4 Blair and Dan’s friendship grew over their love of Serena. Blair needed someone to help her take Juliet down and Chuck was not available so she looked at Dan as a last resort.
I believe Dan and Blair are better off as friends, they do enjoy the same types of movies and do share an appreciation for the arts. Blair has had two serious long term relationships before she became engaged to the prince.
Dan is a good guy but he will always be in love with Serena and he only has a crush on Blair. Blair has not and most likely will not return those feelings. Blair and Serena are best friends and she knows how Serena feels about Dan and she would not cross this line. These two characters have a lot in common but they are totally different.
Blair is currently engaged to the Prince and we have heard from various spoilers and interviews that Louis will be sticking around more than half of the Season. Gossip Girl is not the type of show that does a time jump. Blair is not the type of character that has rebound relationships. I do not see Blair having romantic feelings for Dan. When Blair and Dan did share a kiss it meant nothing to her and made her realize she wanted to be with Chuck.
When Vanessa had that phone conversation with Dan in the finale and was talking to him about the book. She hinted a Dan writing nice things about Blair instead of Serena. I personally find this hard to believe. Before Serena even spoke two words to Dan he has been head over hills in love with the girl. When Dan first met Blair he could not stand her. Dan started writing his book Insider in the second half of Season 4. Blair and Dan did spend some time together and hang out in the second half of the Season but I just do not think it was enough for Dan to start having feeling for Blair. It appears to be out of left field that he would only say flattering things about Blair and not about Serena as well.
I am interested in seeing a Blair and Dan friendship but I believe it will never get romantic.

Bringing something new to the UES air.
Yes we know right now there are no plans for Dair,
But what if there was? Would it give you a scare?
Or are you one of those fans that can bare
To see Dan and Blair relationship that has been so rare.
My question to you is, would it really be that bad?
Because the episodes focused on them were really kind of rad.
What makes a Dair relationship so great?
Really it’s the possibility of new things on our Gossip Girl plate.
But first I must stop and get something straight,
Chuck and Blair are definitely soul mates.
But why is it ok for Chuck to have other girls
While B sits at home waiting to feel her heart twirl?
Dan and Blair connect on a different level
And with him Blair’s not quite the scheming little devil.
Their connection: it’s fun, pure and simple
And when Dan smiles at her you can see his dimple.
Some argue friendship might be the way to go
But don’t you think Dan could Blair’s beaux?
They share common interest and a general disgust.
It’s only natural that it could turn into lust.
Just something to dabble in; it doesn’t need to be forever
But let’s have some time for them to be clever.
Honestly Blair might need to experience different types of boyfriends
To realize its Chuck she might actually need in the end.
Whether it’s forever or just for a minute,
Dan and Blair deserve to have a spirit.
Disgust turns to friends and then friend to lovers,
It’s not unrealistic for Dair to flutter.
Besides if it’s not explored, some story lines might be left in the gutter
And some Gossip Girl fans will probably have some serious words to mutter.
Sick and tired of the fanwars. DB against CB? Gimme a break! I won’t dwell on how the writers have to alter Blair psychologically in order for her to be compatible with Dan. Or comment extensively on the “Inevitability Factor” the writers have perpetuated.
This show is business for the CW & producers. C&B are the most popular characters on Gossip Girl. If you disagree you are delusional, blind and/or deaf. Do a bit of research & you’ll find out that C&B have been used many times to sell the show. Whether it was Schwartz promising their dynamic to “be a through line” in S2 or the “Chair on Chairs” promo for S4 finale.
And as for Chuck, he’s the most talked about character. Even DB fans seem obsessed with the guy. One-dimensional? He’s the most complex character on the show. You might label him as abusive & boring (everyone’s entitled to an opinion) but the Basstard’s popularity hasn’t diminished a bit. Dan’s been on the show for 4 years & Nate is more popular than him even though his acting is deplorable IMO. In TV land, you either have it or you don’t. Chuck’s got it. In spades. He’s been stealing the show since the Pilot.
So if you think Chuck is done & Chair is history, let’s wait for the next promo the CW uses to draw viewers’ attention because of course it will be Dan in a warm flannel shirt snuggling with a sweet & needy Blair.

I would of liked Dan and Blair as friends a lot more if I didn’t feel they destroyed Serena and Chuck just to get them together. I also don’t like how they were pretty much isolated just to hang out together, by doing that Blair became boring and at times down right annoying.
If they play it right I could start liking a friendship (although Dan’s feelings have to be killed to start that – I can’t believe he hasn’t even factored in what it would do to their friendship). But it would have to include a lot of cast interaction and Serena and Chuck growing, maturing and becoming these great people I have always thought they could be.
I could never support a relationship or would even want a relationship for them though as that would be a sure fire way to kill that friendship since the writers seem incapable of maintaining friendships after they have had sex.

@Samantha R. you have a really good post I agree with. Chuck and Blair are the most popular characters and pairing but I think that’s hard for some DB fans to face.

Why I Can’t Believe In Dair by Deb
