We’re halfway through with our contests for TGAD’s birthday celebration. But this week we’re giving out Spotted: Your One and Only Unofficial Guide to Gossip Girl by Crissy Calhoun. Next week we’re going to have Miss Calhoun on the show to talk about her book and what inspired her to write a guide to Gossip Girl.

Centered on the philosophy, fashion, and high society of the wildly popular and critically acclaimed teen series Gossip Girl, this nitty-gritty exposé provides an episode-by-episode dissection of the first two groundbreaking seasons. Diving below the surface plotlines to detail the cultural references, glamour, haute couture, music, and morality of the privileged teenagers of the Upper East Side, this essential fan bible covers all of the juicy and intriguing aspects of the hit show—itself a biting social commentary on this generation of entitled, tech-savvy youth. With bios of the cast and creators, a comparison of the show to its teen soap and literary predecessors, a look at the adaptation from books to screen, and a Gossip Girl introduction to real-life New York City, this guide is not only the first of its kind but a must-have accessory for any Gossip Girl fan.

But you can win a free copy of the book if you can just tell us if you’re read any of the Gossip Girl books and if you prefer the books over the television show or vice versa. Or if you haven’t read the books tells us why you haven’t read the books and why or why not the television show is better than the books. The winner will be chosen at random and it’s easy to win; just comment.

I read all the books since I was in early teens and haven’t read them since. Then the TV show came along a few years later and I have to say I love it more than the books. However if I had not read the book series first I wouldn’t have the knowledge of the characters being brought to life on screen.

The TV show is cult viewing, I am addicted. The fashion, snappy insults, the gorgeous cast, chuck and blair’s love story. The show is nothing like I’ve seen before on television.

I read the books after I started watching the TV show and I love them both equally. I think of them as two separate things. The characters are essentially the same, but they have many different qualities. If i had to pick, I would say I like the TV show better. Gossip Girl is the only show I watch regularly on TV and I love it. The books and the show are both great entertainment.

I haven’t read the book and I want to read it very much!!!

I have the entire Gossip Girl series of books, all 11 for me. I’ve read the first four and I enjoy them. They r a good read…aside from the show. In order to enjoy the books as u read them – u can’t think about the show, otherwise it’ll ruin it for u. I like the show and the books in different ways. I kinda wish the creators and writers behind the show had’ve stayed true to the essence of each other characters (even if not their story lines in the books). I love ‘em both, but if I had to choose…i guess I would say the show takes the win because it’s so relevant and current and i love the dialogue between the characters of the show.

I haven’t read the books ’cause they are not available in my country :(
But I think the TV show is incredible and I’ve heard even better than the books, and that the stories of one and the other are not really the same… I hope to get this book at least!!!

    Kisses to everyone!

I haven’t read the books from the Gossip Girl series, and I really want to read them. I’ve watched only one episode of the movie series (but didn’t have the chance to watch all of them, unfortunately) and I thought that the movie was great! How I wish I can read all the books!

I haven’t read any of the books for Gossip Girl only because I first got hooked on the show, and later got hooked on Chair. I figure if I read the books I’llbe shouting at them the entire time because people say that Blair and Nate are together in them, not Blair and Chuck. But I <3 the tv show for more than Chair, although it is a helping facture. xD

[P.S. I do technically own the first gossip girl book, because I bought the Season 1 DVD and along with it came the audiobook.]

I have read one of the books, but I love the TV show and honestly didn’t like the books that much. There was none of the Chuck/Blair interaction I enjoy, and so many of the characters are just so different it was jarring and felt like an entirely different story. Some aspects I wish they would bring to the show though, like Dan/Vanessa and Nate/Serena which were barely touched in the show.

I prefer the show because it is so much more effective to actually be watching a story unfold rather than seeing the words. Also, the fashion and setting are so vibrant and fabulous on the tv show than how they are described in the book!

i have not read the books but i think that no book or tv show is better the gossip girl.

I’ve read all the books, and I definitely prefer the books over the television show, although I must admit I’m addicted to both.
I really like the books because of the different plotline, and when I first started watching Gossip Girl, I was a little disappointed with the major changes, but I eventually found a different charm with it. It is after all television, and they would need a little more “excitement” ?
The books were able to let me imagine things on my own, although without the fantastic clothes from the show. The ending left me wondering how the love triangle between N, B and S would end up, and I loved it in general. :) .
