This week on TGAD we discuss the fandom totally wiggin’ out last week, ratings implications, Josh Safran not really being the one to blame and of course Gossip Girl episode 5.16 – Cross Rhodes. Highlights include: For the love of Chair, Blair’s story line becoming too much and Serena being the better friend. Note: I’m sorry I didn’t edit out the thing about a mosquito in my hair. I completely forget and didn’t write it down. If you’re living on the Gulf Coast you know what it’s like right now for the mosquitoes to be out every where and invading your home.

● Do you think the reveal was anti-climatic?

Queen B the slutty Princess lol. Does anybody not realize that technically it is Dan’s fault that Blair is so called “trapped” in her marriage. Louis said the last straw was that video being released and if the video was never released then Louise would not have “trapped” Blair into the marriage. I am so waiting for a Chuck Serena hookup I so hope this happens.

And Blair’s character is apparently going to get worst, a spoiler came out yesterday hinting that Blair would not care Lonely Boy sent in the video.

I hope the Chivy/Chola thing is over, this story line has been dragged out for a year, and Chivy only stuck around because she never had a family and Carol keeping Lola away because she doesn’t like her family is just like what is the point.

I hope the writing gets better by seasons end, and I hope the writers do not promote the remainder of the season being revolved around Blair.

Essay contest took place in Season 1 Between episode 12 and 13 according to GG Writers. the reason it never aired was because of the writers strike. They explained this on twitter.

sorry this is sooo long have a few questions- I may call TGAD and leave voicemail. Just started subscribing a little over month ago to the podcasts.

Despite all of the criticisms that you are about to read I absolutely adored this episode. I like that Dan grew a pair and just FINALLY told Blair the truth. I like that Serena is not being petty despite how selfish Blair is acting. I like that Chuck slipped a little into his scheme-y old ways but that we saw all his progress wasn’t fake. I liked the cheesy-ness of blair mocking the play and mocking lola for her headband it felt like old Blair. I think that if we get another season – and i really hope we do. I would like to see Blair focus on a future that has to do with fashion and get her head on straight again. She was such a driven strong woman, and if she could get that back i would forgive/and or respect any guy she chose to be with. Because what i think the show needs is for the strong female leads to take the lead in their lives and make strong life choices and focus on careers. Not boys, boys, boys. jeez. it feels like a regression for them. I would like to see them both on track. so now:

wow. I was so disheartened to hear how much you guys all hated the episode. awww :( I do have a couple of questions:
    1) Did chivy ever take the money? because it was my understanding that the aunt took it all. So the writers seem to be trying to make chivy as likable as possible (considering she’s a fraud). I think that they are running out storylines, but they are still trying to find ways to get the gang together to fight a common enemy and in order to do that they have to introduce new characters. like chivy and louie. It is easy to see how much the characters have changed because (as you guys have said the writers lack continuity in the storyline- which i agree has to do with having “too many cooks in the kitchen” (too many writers – that are not keeping the characters true to their original personalities) however, that being said, I think the Dair has been a long time coming and it would be sad to see Blair and Chuck come together knowing that they each hadn’t gotten all of the wrong choices out of their way. put another way- for those of us who were never die hard Chair fans it would be reassuring to know whom she chooses is the right person for her, and that the series doesn’t just abruptly come to end when there always existed a chemistry with Dan worth exploring.

I agree that it sucks that the writers are making crap up. Thanks Deb for filling us in on what they were talking about with essay competition (that never aired – and in all likeyhood was never even filmed) so it sucks that they are talking about things that even die hard fans don’t know what they’re talking about. So thank you.

    2) was it just me or did Lola ever tell Nate her real name? because he wasn’t in the hospital when the truth went down. So are we to assume that he never found out? Furthermore- why the hell wasn’t he in the hospital – I watched and rewatched the episode and he just disappears. He tells her he will go with her to the hospital (because Lola wants to find chivy) but then he’s just gone, but then, oh wait a second- he’s waiting for her outside the hospital? WHAT?!? what is going on? Was he there the whole time just waiting for her like a puppy? wtf! He already said he demanded clarification about why she took his phone to track down IVY but then his attention span is so short that he doesn’t follow through? what? I didn’t like that. and if the writers turn this into another situation where Nate gets tricked by another girl with a secret agenda and a secret identity to go with it, then i hope he just quits girls. They need to make him celibate, or just i don’t know but that a storyline that i am getting sick of getting hit over the head with. First juliet, then his boss, then … I don’t even remember but it feels like every single girl he likes has a secret identity. It’s old.

I haven’t even read all your comment yet but I’m going to respond. But I was the only one on TGAD that actually liked the episode. It didn’t bother me.

  • Deb

I don’t think Nate knows about Lola yet. I was wondering that myself. He doesn’t know about her being the real Charlie. I wonder if Lola will ever tell him. I love Lola so much better than Chivy. And I think Blair should be by herself now too.

The fans were really upset about the writers pulling that essay out of nowhere. Then they claimed on their twitter account that they meant to put it into season one. But at this point I really do not believe them.

I think the writers were writing this season around the 100th episode because they were so excited to reach 100. That is way this season has been all over the place.

GG will most likely get a season 6 despite how low the ratings will get. I just hope they go back to focusing on the gang being in their senior year of college and graduation. I hope they take B S and N back to Columbia and we see Lonely Boy back at NYU and Chuck continuing with Bass Industries.

  • GG Fashion Lover – Stephanie

totally agree (especially about most of the characters going back to college or pursuing meaningful futures. I think there is still time for the writers to wake up and realize that most of the fans that love this show are getting older just the same that the characters are, and we really want to see them growing as people and becoming more well-rounded.) crossing my fingers : ) also, did Chivy end up taking any of the $$$ ? Any speculation as to what her role could possibly be for the future in this show? why keep her around after she’s been exposed? especially if she’s as good as the writers want us to believe. Furthermore if she actually does have these morals- and that’s why she didn’t take the money, then why hook up with Georgina now? Does she not realize that Georgina is evil and always has a hidden agenda? any thoughts would be appreciated. : )

Ivy got thrown out into the cold even though she took care off CC by herself when she was dying, so with her back against the way it seems like she has only one option left and unfortunately that’s Georgina. And I do agree with you with the fashion thing for Blair. I really liked the idea of her being a fashion mag industry. I hope they go back to that. Except she will be doing it for the right reasons which is herself and not for some guy like Chuck.

  • Deb

At the end of season 4 we saw Ivy take some of the checks from the trust fund before she gave the rest to Carol. I don’t know why Ivy wants to team up with Georgina though. Like she is exposed and it is time for her to leave, I guess she feels she is entitled to money because she took care of CeCe but she is not a Rhodes. Lola is the real Charlie Rhodes and I am sure Charlie Rhodes in on the will of CeCe unless Ivy came clean to CeCe and she changed her will at the last minute.

Maybe Georgina was able to some how change CeCe’s will or something, since she was able to get her hands on a Royal prenup, I still do not see how that is possible. But Georgina is truly capable of anything. That is why I love her. I hope she sticks around for season 6.

i think the issue w/ the video is that if it had never been sent in, Blair would have been marrying a man who loved her and they would have at least had a shot at happiness; sending in the video embarrassed and devastated Louis, leading ultimately to the fall out that is her marriage prison. yes, she still has to deal with the situation as it is now, but it would make sense that she would at the very least be pissed off at whoever basically caused her misery, and at worse–seek revenge.

I know I’m a bit late but I just finished listening to the episode, and I wanted to write in. I love the podcast, allthough I don’t always agree. But that’s why I like it, because I don’t really care about that, but you were pretty harsh on Blair last episode so I wanted to write something in her defense. I also didn’t really notice anything about the fans taking it to far, but maybe that’s because I live in a Dair bubble.

    Anyway, here it goes.

Blair is not a slut. She is confused. And she has every reason to. She’s about twenty right? I guess we should remember that. Yes, Blair is married, but I don’t think that really matters. The only place she’s married is on a piece of paper. Louis doesn’t love her, or cares for her, and she doesn’t love him. It’s nothing but a contract. So it has nothing to do with feelings. Which she is confused over. Dan or Chuck. I was a chair fan up untill season four, when I just fell in love with the chemistry Dan and Blair had. But if Chair is endgame, I’ll be fine. If Dair is endgame, I’ll be fine. As long as they’re happy, and the build up was done properly.

Now, I know Blair said she loves Chuck, but things like that can change. And that’s probably really weird for her too, since Chuck has always been the one, and know Dan tells her he loves her, and she decides not to act upon it. For Serena. Yes, she kissed back, but that’s more a ‘in the spur of the moment’ thing isn’t it. She didn’t think. Because she is afraid of what she might feel. So, she doesn’t see Dan anymore, because she wants to make things right with Serena again, but Serena herself says she thinks Blair is in love with Dan. In the end she comes to the same conclusion. But what with Chuck, someone she has history with, has loved so madly for so long, and is waiting for her. Well, she doesn’t know. Who would. So that’s what she tells him. She doesn’t lie to him.

I also don’t see how it is ok for Chuck to sleep with Dan’s book editor, while he promised Blair he would wait for her, and it’s not ok for Blair to kiss Dan (who has been in love with Blair for almost an entire year).

Anyways, that was my take on it. I love listening to you guys! Excited for tonights (but for me tomorrows) episode! Bye!

  • Brittany

I’m sorry, but “it was supposed to happen” and “it happened” are entirely different things. It never aired and it has literally never been mentioned until now, therefore it didn’t happen. It’s rewriting history just to give Dair a “moment” of apparently clarity. A moment of clarity is supposed to resonate with all of the viewers. It’s not supposed to make us all go “WHAT?! When did that happened?” It’s not supposed to be a moment that the writers then have to explain as something that was “supposed to happen” but never did.

  • Dpaigew4

Wake me up if and when Dair is dead and gone.
