Episode #13: Oh Brother, Where Bart Thou?
- Everyone it seems in New York’s Upper East Side is mourning Bart Bass. He’s on the cover of every newspaper. CeCe tries to get Serena and Eric to breakfast with her, but they both say they aren’t really hungry. Serena is worried about her mom who isn’t eating or sleeping much since the accident. Lily comes in when they are talking about Chuck and she assures the group Chuck is indeed alive. Lily leaves to go for a walk in the park. CeCe is suspicious.
- Blair is wanting to hear from Chuck. He seems to be ignoring all her texts and calls. She thinks he should be with people who care about him instead of entertaining himself with the twins from room service. Eleanor and Cyrus are planning their Christmas trip to Paris, but Blair doesn’t understand how they are planning the same day of Bart’s funeral.
- Dan has been spending a lot of time with Serena. She thanks him for being a rock for her through everything. Dan and Serena agree it just feels natural for him to be there for her. Dan is worried about her because she worrying about everyone else. Aaron shows up and Serena gives him a half-hearted hug and tells them both she will be going to funeral with her family.
- Lily meets Rufus in the park. Lily says she’s feels guilty because she was going to end their marriage. He tells her not to blame herself for this and he’s going to wait for her this time, 6 weeks or 6 months, he’ll be there. Lily mentions Bart sent her a voicemail but she’s too scared to listen to it. Rufus leaves and CeCe spots him on the way out. Meanwhile, Lily finally listens to the voicemail and finds out Bart not only knew she was at the ball with Rufus; he knows why she was in the hospital in France.
- Andrew Tyler, the PI, meets with Chuck. Chuck wants to know what information he had for his father. Andrew says he’s worked for Bart not him and someone else might be more invested in the information than Chuck is, so he’s going to hold out.
- Dan and Aaron are waiting for Serena at the church. Serena sends a text to them both saying she in on her way, but Dan gets it first. Aaron blames it on the service. While waiting, Jenny arrives and tells Dan she just talked to Eric and he said they were on there way. Dan says that’s old news and then Jenny realizes she walked into an akward situation. When Serena arrives, Aaron pulls Serena toward him and she gives him another half-hearted hug, but gives Dan a nice long lingering hug.
- CeCe tries to confront Lily about Rufus but she doesn’t want to hear it and wonders where Chuck could be. When Chuck finally shows up, he’s drunk. Blair and Nate are trying to take care of him. Nate says they should have taken him back home, but Blair insists that he should be there to show his respects for his father. They are trying to straighten Chuck out, but nothing is working. Chuck gets angry when he sees that Dan is there. He says Rufus is the reason why his father is dead. Dan seems confused. Serena steps in and tries to tell Chuck he’s been helping the family unlike him, but CeCe thinks Dan should leave. Serena puts up a fuss because she wants Dan there. But Dan agrees he should leave and Aaron tells Serena to let Dan go.
- Chuck walks away from the group and Lily tries to stop him, but he calls her a whore and tells her not to touch him. She tries again by telling Chuck he needs to be with his family but Chuck says he doesn’t have any family. Chuck walks into the church alone.
- Meanwhile, Dan arrives back home to Rufus playing the guitar. Dan tells him about what Chuck said about him killing his father. Rufus says he doesn’t know what Chuck meant by that. Rufus changes the subject and asks about Serena. He knows they have been spending a lot of time together and he’s basically trying to find out if they’ve grown closer and are thinking about getting back together. Dan says they broke up…it’s over. Dan asks why Rufus didn’t think about going to the funeral because is he one of Lily’s oldest friends. He says it’s just better that he didn’t go.
- At the funeral reception, Blair and Nate are trying to get Chuck to leave, but he doesn’t want to go. So they try to get him to eat and he doesn’t want to do that either. Chuck says he has busy to tend to. Nate mentions something about Blair being sweet with Chuck, almost maternal, but Blair disagrees.
- Cyrus is moved by the funeral service and decides he wants to marry Eleanor right away. Blair isn’t happy with this idea and almost had Eleanor on her side. Eleanor first says no because she doesn’t have anything to wear, but Jenny steps in and says she will make her something to make amends for what she has done. Then Eleanor agrees to get married the following day in a small ceremony at their home.
- Aaron invites Serena to Buenos Aires for Christmas. Serena is shocked and says she doesn’t want to say no but she has too because her family is a mess right now. Aaron then asks if that is the real reason why she’s not going or because of Dan. Serena says her and Dan are just friends and there is nothing to worry about. Aaron says this is his gift to her and her going will be her gift to him.
- CeCe finds Lily to ask her what Chuck knows about her. CeCe is insistent that he knows something about Lily and Rufus. She tells Lily she needs to go talk to him. Lily goes upstairs to find Chuck and CeCe gets an important phone call and she leaves to meet someone downstairs.
- Jonathan is there for Eric and asks him if they can talk because he’s got some explaining to do.
- Chuck is looking though Bart’s files. Lily thinks he’s looking for Bart’s will, but he’s looking for Lily’s file. She tells him it isn’t there. Chuck says she should be ashamed for not honoring her marriage. Lily says the only reason Bart got in the car is because Chuck called him. Chuck says he was going there to fight for her and Bart died for nothing. Lily slaps him. Chuck says once he gets his money they will never see him again. He goes downstairs to leave and everyone tries to stop him. Eric pleads with him to stay because he’s already lost his step father, he doesn’t want to lose his brother too. Chuck looks at him and says they aren’t related and leaves. Nate tries to keep Blair from going after him, but she still goes.
- CeCe tells Lily Andrew Tyler wants her to pay him off for the information he found. Lily admits to knowing he knows why she was in the hospital. Lily asks her mother to just pay him, but CeCe thinks it’s a good time to let the secret out so Lily can have a clean slate. Lily doesn’t understand why now her mother wants this secret out.
- Blair catches up to Chuck when he’s leaving. She wants to be there for him but Chuck says she’s not his girlfriend. But Blair says they are Blair and Chuck even with the worst thing he’s ever done or the darkest though he’s ever had, she’s going to be there for him and she tells him she loves him. He says that’s too bad and leaves. Blair is left there crying.
- The next day, Dan and Serena meet up. Serena wants to tell him about the trip. They talked about their previous conversation from the night Bart died. Dan asks Serena if she’s asking her not to go. She says no, but she’s asking him to her how he feels. Dan says he can’t tell her who to be with or how she feels about her boyfriend. Dan then makes up an excuse about getting the wrong muffin and leaves.
- At the Waldorf’s, Cyrus talks to Blair about how much he cares for Eleanor and says he loves Blair too. Blair then tells him she told Chuck she loved him and how horrible it is now. She thought if she finally told him things would change, but they didn’t. She asks for Cyrus to hug her and he tells her everything will be ok, Chuck just needs time. Eleanor looks on from afar.
- CeCe comes back and tells Lily everything went well with Andrew. She insinuates she took care of the problem. CeCe asks what’s she going to do since she’s in love with Rufus. Lily says she’s not going to do anything right away. She fell into CeCe’s trap. She admits to being in love with Rufus and Serena overhears her. Lily tries to explain to Serena but she already knows. Serena says she talked her out of being with Rufus once and asks if Rufus feels the same way. Lily tells her yes and she tells her to go be with him. Lily asks about her and Dan, Serena says she’s going to try to work things out with Aaron and asks if it’s ok if she goes away with Aaron for the holidays.
- Dan and Jenny are talking about how he basically tipped Serena in favor of going to South America with Aaron. Jenny asks why he did that if he still has feelings for her. She encourages Dan to talk to her before it’s too late. She tells Dan that Serena will be at Eleanor’s wedding and he can carry the garmet bag.
- Lily calls Rufus to ask where Dan and Jenny will be spending the holidays. They will be with their mother so she asks Rufus to go away with her. They plan to go to a bed and breakfast in Cornwall. Before hanging up, Rufus tells her they will be ok this time.
- Andrew Tyler meets with Chuck again to tell him he was the higest bidder and the only bidder. Chuck wonders why he should want to buy some information that Lily didn’t want, but he tells Chuck he dealt with CeCe not Lily. He tells Chuck he’s about to become the richest kid in New York and he should make those decisions himself. Chuck pays up and leaves.
- Serena is at the Waldorf’s where she tells Aaron she is going to go with him. That’s when Dan shows up with Jenny. Aaron leaves to check on his father. Dan tells Serena he wants her to stay. She says he’s too late. She says it’s not their time to be together. It’s not about Aaron, it’s about their parents. She tells Dan they are in love and her and Dan have already failed twice. They will always be connected, but Dan should move on because she’s dating someone else now.
- Chuck has the info and taunts Lily with the information. Lily doesn’t think he has the information until he tells her that CeCe lied about paying Andrew Tyler, but he’s more than happy to further CeCe’s agenda. Lily asks Chuck not to turn away from the people that love him. She also said Bart never learned that and she doesn’t want him to be like that.
- A montage plays of Cyrus and Eleanor getting married, Dan walking home alone, Serena reaching for Aaron’s hand. Chuck burning the papers, Lily and Rufus preparing to leave and Lily taking her ring off. Darota comes to get Blair because Chuck is there to see her. He doesn’t say a word, but he looks lonely and Blair runs to him and he finally gives in to his feelings.
- CeCe goes to see Rufus and tells him the only thing she ever wanted was her daughter’s happiness. Rufus doesn’t want to hear what she has to say he would rather hear it from Lily. She says she gave Lily a chance to say something but she didn’t take it. CeCe says she has to tell the secret so they will have a shot at working out.
- Serena and Aaron are in the back of a cab going to the airport. She says them going on the trip will be good for them and everything else. She has no regrets.
- Dan walks in on Rufus who is sitting in the dark. Dan is upset because he didn’t tell him he was in love with Lily. Rufus says he’ll never be with Lily and Serena doesn’t know what she’s talking. Dan asks if he’s ok and if he’s going somewhere. He says no, he’s just going out.
- Dan calls Serena and Aaron tells her to answer. She says she doesn’t want to. Aaron asks that she just them time so they have a shot because he might be falling in love with her. She ignores Dan’s call and kisses Aaron.
- Blair and Chuck are together in bed. Chuck is asleep and she’s watching him.
- Lily is waiting for Rufus at the train station. He says he only has one thing to say, is it a girl or a boy? Lily stands there stunned.
- When Blair wakes up, Chuck is gone but he leaves a note saying “I’m sorry for everything. You deserve better. Don’t come looking for me.” And Blair is left crying again.
