Episode #6: New Haven Can’t Wait
• Blair has a dream that she is Eliza Doolittle before the transformation and she’s trying to speak correctly and clearly. But Serena, who is playing the reformed Eliza, steps in and masters it on the first try.
• Serena gets a handwritten note from the dean of Yale inviting her for a pre-freshman visit. But she doesn’t want to go because Brown has always been her plan.
• Dan is nervous about his visit for to Yale. Nate and Chuck are also planning their visit to New Haven. Chuck is applying to schools based on their secret societies. He mentions the Skull and Bones. Nate still wants to go to USC, but thinks Yale might be ok because people won’t know who he is and his family history.
• Blair and Serena have a chat in the halls at school and Blair tells Serena she’s not that smart. She may have charm, but knowledge is power and Serena doesn’t have any. That fires Serena up and changes her mind about heading to Brown for the weekend.
• Jenny enlists Vanessa’s help in convincing Rufus to let Jenny home school so she can work with Eleanor. It doesn’t work, but her and Rufus make a deal. After spending the day with Jenny at the atelier, if he agrees Jenny should go back to school on Monday, she will.
• At Yale, Dan meets with the dean and it’s not going so well. Plus, Dan is short one letter of recommendation. The dean advises him to get a faculty member to write him a letter about his work.
• Nate is bored because Chuck is waiting on his secret society dreams to come true. While lounging, Nate catches the eye of a college student, Jordan, and takes off to meet her. Not soon after, Chuck is taken by a group of guys. Nate hangs out with the girl and some friends. When they find out he’s to St. Jude’s they ask if he knows Nate because they have been talking about his dad in econ class. Nate wants to leave but Jordan doesn’t want to leave until she knows his name. He lies and says it’s Dan Humphrey.
• Blair is waiting nervously for her interview with the deal and is surprised when Serena steps out of his office. Blair is confused, but is still focused on the task at hand. The dean asks Blair to tell him something that isn’t in the application. He also refers to Serena’s answer by saying she was in a fashion show for fun a couple of weeks back. This obviously irritated Blair. She has a mild freak out and tells the dean everything worth knowing about her is in her application. He doesn’t seem impressed and that’s maybe why he didn’t extend an invitation to Blair to his private party.
• Blair and Serena meet outside after the interview and Blair asks why Serena is still there. During the convo, Serena gets a call from the dean’s secretary inviting her to the dean’s party. Blair realizes she really wasn’t invited and asks Serena why she wants to take everything away from her. Serena already got Nate, the girls at school…now she’s trying to take Yale away from her.
• Jenny is working at atelier and is showing Rufus how things are different. Rufus does realize things are different for her and gets worried. He goes to Eleanor and asks her to fire Jenny. Eleanor refuses because she knows Jenny is talented and it shouldn’t go to waste.
• Chuck runs into Serena and she tells him that she was invited to the Dean’s party. Chuck tells her that puts her on the short list for early admissions and Serena starts to feel bad because she knows that is what Blair wants. Chuck goes on to explain the dean is going to ask a question at the party who alive or dead would you like to have dinner with and the people who impress him the most will be granted early admission. Chuck says he knows Blair’s answer but Serena doesn’t want to hear it. Chuck lets it slip anyway.
• Dan is looking for help from the faculty for his letter or recommendation which leads him straight to Jordan’s door who happens to be making out with Nate (aka Dan) in her dorm room. When Dan introduces himself, Jordan figures out that Nate lied to her about who he was and Nate is mad because he was signaling to Dan not to mess it up. Nate really lays into him because he messed up his time with Jordan. Dan doesn’t feel sorry for him though because it’s his future and Nate shouldn’t have pretended to be him.
• Blair is desperate to get into the party and she finds away to get in. She plays on the dean’s secretary’s love of cats by promising her some 18th century cat figurines. The secretary immediately caves…and viola Blair is in.
• Rufus admits to being impressed with Jenny at work, but still thinks Jenny should return to school. Jenny looks disappointed but doesn’t put up a fuss because they did make a deal. She asks that he take her on one last errand though.
• Serena is putting her answer into the fish bowl when Blair approaches her at the party. Serena is upset that Blair manipulated her way into the party and steals Blair’s answer. She also mentions the dean goes in alphabetical order when going through the answers. But Blair has something up her sleeve because she’s eyeing the fish bowl too hard.
• Chuck is busy proving himself with the Skull and Bones by throwing a party for them. He elicits the help of hookers, but the group isn’t satisfied. They want Nate to bring him down and they know he and Nate are good friends. Apparently one of the guy’s families lost a beach house in California because of the captains lying. They give him one hour to deliver Nate to them. Meanwhile, Nate wants to leave because everyone seems to know who he is. He calls Chuck to see if he wants to leave that night. He tells Chuck to meet him at Mike’s bar. Hangs up the phone and tells the group that he can deliver. And he does…but is it the right person?
• Blair and Serena compete at the party. The Dean is reading the answers to the questions and he comes to Serena’s answer. Her card reads, Pete Furman. Blair switched the cards. Pete is the guy Serena though she killed two years ago. Serena is hesitant to answer but Blair steps in to tell the truth. Serena then explains what happens and Blair is providing her own commentary during her explanation. Serena asks the dean if she can handle the matter privately with Blair. While Serena is pulling Blair outside, she’s screaming what her answer was…and acting slightly psychotic.
• In the hall, Blair is mad…Serena is mad. Blair throws her purse at Serena and this starts a catfight.
• Jenny and Rufus go to Lily’s apartment to run Jenny’s last errand. Lily isn’t supposed to be there, but she is and she’s trying on the dress that was sent over for Serena. Jenny senses the awkwardness and goes upstairs to find Lily the perfect pair of shoes for the dress. While she is gone, Rufus tells Lily Jenny wants to quit school to pursue fashion. Lily lets it slip that Jenny designed the dress she is wearing. Lily and Rufus do some mild flirting here.
• Back at Yale, Nate is waiting for Chuck at the bar when the Skull and Bones come in bragging about how they tied Nate Archibald to a statue. Nate tells them they are wrong, because he’s Nate. But they were wrong, it was Dan. Chuck really set Dan up this time. Nate goes to help out whoever it was who was tied up and sees Dan. Jordan then shows up and helps Dan out by getting him untied.
• Serena and Blair finally have a conversation and Serena says she can’t do the war anymore. She suggests they shouldn’t be friends anymore. They both agree but at the same time look upset.
• The next day has come in New York and Rufus is having breakfast with Vanessa. Jenny senses something bad is going on, but Rufus tells Jenny he will allow her to be home schooled for a semester and she can apply to the Children’s Professional School for January.
• Blair and Serena meet on the steps at the dean’s offer. Serena is there to tell him it’s Blair’s dream to go to Yale and Blair is doing the same for Serena. They both come to the conclusion they are better off as friends and they hug and make up. Serena says she is going to decline early admission if the dean offers it. Blair says she shouldn’t.
• Dan, Nate and Jordan are all hanging out together. Jordan says she will find someone in the faculty to write a letter of recommendation for him. She always tells Nate she would have liked him no matter what his name was. They both leave to go home.
• Nate meets up with Chuck and gets angry at him for setting Dan up. Chuck doesn’t understand why Nate cares so much, but Nate tells him he likes Dan. Nate doesn’t ride back to the city with Chuck; instead he rides the train back with Dan. Chuck doesn’t like that one bit and seems a little jealous.
• The Dean calls Serena back while he is looking at the tabloids saying he was glad that she came to visit and there would be a spot for her in early admissions. He wants to issue a press release saying Serena came to visit for the weekend. Serena knows what is going on and says she would have to call him back. Blair says she shouldn’t turn it down no matter the reason she got it. The hug, Blair looks a little sad and jealous…and they ride home together.
