3.04 – Dan de Fleurette

The theme of this week’s Gossip Girl could be summed up in two words: identity crisis. Everyone from Serena to Jenny to Blair and Hilary Duff’s Olivia were trying to find their place given all the changes in their lives.

Serena reveals to her mother she’s not going to Brown (much to Lily’s dismay) and tries her hand in the working world. Jenny decides that, as the new Queen Bee of Constant, there’s no longer going to even be a Queen Bee. But once Blair–who is still having trouble adjusting to the NYU lifestyle–finds out, she heads back to her old territory to take the reigns. Chuck manages to save the day, both convincing Blair that she can take charge at NYU, too, and Jenny that she should take the throne she’s been given.

Duff’s Olivia first comes on the scene as “Kate” but it’s mere minutes til we find out she’s really a famous movie star using an alias. Olivia’s struggling with her public identity and the private life she wants to have–namely, a normal girl like any other going to school to at NYU. Dan is intrigued by her from their first meeting but is thrown for a loop when he finds out who she is. Though Dan has repeatedly said that he wants a drama-free relationship post-Serena, we have a feeling he’s going to have his hands full once again.
