3.02 – The Freshman
Everyone is getting ready for school orientation. Dorota is helping Blair get ready for school. Dan is leaving the loft and Serena is packing in her room. She get’s a text from Lily that says she is proud of her, but Serena doesn’t seem too interested in a going away to school.
Chuck is with Blair and he can’t believe that Blair is going to stay in the dorms. Blair says she can’t rule NYU from the Upper East Side. She needs to live in the dorms so she can establish her self as queen.
Serena talks to Dan about Vanessa. She says maybe that he should just get over it because this is the first time they will be attending the same school together. Serena says that NYU is the prefect place for Dan. And he replies saying it’s the same for Brown and her, but she doesn’t respond. There is a hesitation there.
At the coffee shop, Dan meets Katie who is a big fan of his work. She too tried to get published in the New Yorker but she got turned down. She wants him to join her writing group.
Everyone is moving into the dorms and Dan walks up on Vanessa and Scott kissing. Vanessa formally introduces them and they trade some snarky comments to each other. Blair gets out of a limo and tells Dan and Vanessa that they don’t know each other at NYU. They both agreed to that.
Serena goes to see Chuck because she needs a place to stay since she doesn’t want to go Brown. He says that she can stay as long as she clears out for the night. Serena thinks he’s meeting with his dealer but he’s really having a business meeting to buy an old bank. He wants to have a great restaurant out front but in the vault he wants to make it a speakeasy. Chuck hasn’t shared his plan with anyone, not even Blair, but he lets Serena in on what he’s doing. She thinks it will be a great idea. Bart turned his first profit at 22 and Chuck wants to make his at 21.
Blair is trying to find new minions in the dorm but no one seems to be caring. She is telling them the rules of NYC and gives them gift bags with Tiffany boxes and headbands. Only one girl is slightly interested and tries to answer all of Blair’s questions. Blair thinks she has a single until Georgina shows up and Blair’s not happy to see her. Georgina says she’s coming to NYU for a fresh start. Her parents told her it was Bible camp or college. Blair says she will get Dorota to file a restraining order against Georgina, but instead Blair decides to throw a party. Vanessa is staying in the dorm too!
B: “So you’re not in love with Jesus anymore?
G: “Jesus is still in my heart, but Jesus and I have redefined our relationship.”
B: “You mean he dumped you because he found out you were satan.”
Dan and Vanessa run into each other at the bookstore. They find out they are taking the same classes and take that as a sign they should be talking to each other. They both apologize for not calling each other. Vanessa tries to catch Dan up on everything that happened but then Georgina walks in. Dan is surprised to see her and she asks for a second chance. She apologizes for everything in the past and says she would really like to have some friends there. Dan turns her down, but Vanessa thinks that is a little harsh so she asks Georgina herself if she wants to get some coffee.
Nate and Bree are hooking up. They are at her family’s apartment and she is sneaking Nate in passed the doorman so no one knows. Bree thinks that once they get to know each other they will break up! But Bree soon changes her mind after going through Nate’s pants pockets to discover he is still carrying his boarding pass for their flight back home from London. But Bree’s parents catch wind of what is going on; further diminishing her relationship with them. But she thinks it’s worth it because her and Nate are so much more than a fling.
Chuck meets with is investors when Serena shows up, even though Chuck asked her not to come in. Chuck gets a call from his lawyer and steps away from the table and in comes Serena. She apologizes for interrupting their meeting and asks if the man is going to lease the bank building to Chuck. He says yes and Serena says Chuck has a great idea of turning the vault into a club. Chuck is angry because he lied saying it was just going to be a restaurant and the vault would be used for storage. No one wants a club moving into the neighborhood. Chuck gets really angry and calls Serena a train wreck.
Blair goes all out with her party. It’s an Asian theme and she’s got a full sushi and sake bar set up. But no one shows up because they are all down the hall with Georgina and Vanessa. They are watching Vanessa’s documentary on her community public garden. Blair tries to get everyone to leave, but no one is interested. They want to stay in Vanessa’s room.
Serena decides to crash with Dan the loft. Dan tells Serena that more people have talked to him in one day than the four years he spent at Constance. Dan also says that Serena should talk to Rufus because he gives the best fatherly advice. When she goes to talk to Rufus though, Chuck is there and he’s already told him that Serena decided not to go to Brown. Rufus tries to get her to go and even says he would tell Lily. But Serena doesn’t buy it and is hurt. She says that Rufus is more afraid of Lily than she is.
Georgina is throwing a party and Blair thinks Georgina is trying to sabotage her. Georgina calls her a loser. Blair says Georgina formed a alliance with Vanessa, but it’s not the case they just have made friends.
Serena calls Carter because she wants to celebrate with him about not going to Brown. He reluctantly agrees! While out celebrating, they see Chuck in another business meeting. Serena purposely crashes his meeting with Carter to tell embarrassing stories about him. She even goes as far to tell them that Carter and Chuck have a little tension because they have the same taste in women. Plus, she tells Chuck’s plan again about opening the club in the vault. Chuck says Serena wanted to ruin his business meeting so that’s why she brought Carter. This is the first Carter is hearing of this and is hurt that Serena is just using him. He tells her to find another bad habit because it’s not going to be him.
Blair stops by the coffee shop where Dan is surrounded by many new friends. She asks Dan to be her date to Georgina’s party. Blair says she got off on the wrong foot and wants to start over again. Dan tells her there are no headbands in college and throws it down. Blair obviously doesn’t fit in with anyone at the party and she couldn’t even return a compliment to someone.
Dan apologizes to Georgina for what happened earlier and Georgina tells him that Blair is just using him. He doesn’t think so; he thinks she deserves a second chance. But Georgina says Blair is just looking for a way in. Meanwhile, Katie is hating on Scott because he told Vanessa to take a really old professor. She continues to talk about it but then he snaps at her and says he doesn’t want to talk about it at a party.
Blair gets a mysterious text from someone and then she takes the mic. She wants everyone to know that Georgina is a Jesus Freak and then all her Bible camp friends come in signing. Blair says Georgina threw the party as a conversion party and everyone starts to leave with Blair who is throwing a party at the Monkey Bar. She has limos for everyone. But Dan spoils the plan and tells everyone what Blair did; bringing all of Georgina’s past into the future. He convinces everyone to stay at the party and still have a good time.
The next morning Serena is at the loft when Rufus comes in. He tells her that he deferred a year from college to pursue his music. Serena says things are so messed up and she didn’t mean for things to get this far. Rufus says he didn’t help with what he said to her earlier but he wants to be more than just Lily’s latest husband to her and Eric. He really wants to help.
Serena and Blair meet on the steps and Blair talks about hating downtown. Serena tells her that she will find her place eventually but Blair knows her place is at the bottom. Blair says she is glad that Serena isn’t going to Brown because she needs her there. They hug and go there separate ways. Serena then goes to talk to Carter. She goes to apologize and says the reason she keeps going back to him is because he was the only one who understood why she went to look for her father. She trusts him and she doesn’t want anyone but him. And they kiss.
Blair goes to see Chuck and he’s asleep. She says he was right about the dorms, there is too much florescent lighting there and she cuddles with him. She asks if he’s okay and he responds saying “I am now” right when Blair puts her arm around him.
Scott and Vanessa meet up and he apologizes for the way he treated Katie at the party. Vanessa said that wasn’t even the weirdest thing that happened that night. They talk about how Dan is the new life of the party and Vanessa said he’s changed. She asks if they should call Dan, but Scott says maybe later because he just wanted to spend time with her. Later when they are getting up to leave, Vanessa calls Dan to see if he wants to meet up. But he says no because he’s still pretty wrecked from the party. He’s still at the location of the party and then he turns and kisses Georgina.
