Everything Sparkles On The UES – Recap of 5.03 – The Jewel of Denial

This week on Gossip Girl we learned that fairytales aren’t what they appear to be and sometimes fairytales are complicated. Blair finally has the answer she’s been waiting for about the father of her child, but is afraid to open the results. She avoids to conversation all day long while Dorota and Dan push her to find out the truth.

Meanwhile, Serena and Charlie are back on the UES, but Charlie is afraid people won’t accept her as the normal person she is because of past incidents. But that’s the least of her problems because Carol shows up in the city and tries to expose Charlie/Ivy for the fraud she is until Charlie/Ivy realizes she has something to hang over Carol’s head too. Charlie/Ivy wants to stay on the UES with her nice family and Carol allows it, but leaves Charlie on her own.

Nate is getting his first taste of life at The Spectator and realizes that Diana may have hired him just because he’s a pretty face that can please her. He tells her he really wants to work and she puts him to test by using his social connections to create scandal.

Dan thinks Noah Shipiro is trying to steal his spotlight by telling everyone he wrote Inside. But come to find out, Noah was just trying to get Dan to admit that he wrote the book, which he did in front of the publishers. Looks like Dan secret is out now.

And Chuck, he’s got a new puppy in his life to help him feel something, but it’s not the dog that makes that happen. Blair goes to tell Chuck she’s pregnant but it’s not his baby. She admits a part of her wanted the baby to be his. Chuck is left devastated, crying in his bed with Monkey to help ease the pain. But we are left wondering is Louis really the father of Blair’s baby?

So Scandalous:
• Blair had an interview with HELLO magazine and found out the hard way that Louis isn’t ready to start a family.
• Chuck seen giving away his dog through a Gossip Girl blast, he really does not feel anything.
• Diane firing everyone in the office because Nate doesn’t “like an audience.” Should she just admit she hired Nate so she can have sex whenever she wants?
• Blair not really wanting to know who the father of her baby would be. Besides the fact that she went all day without reading the results, she tore them up to make sure no one else read them. Good thing Dorota is handy with the tape.
• Diana setting Nate up to use his social connections for her personal gain.
• And what the Congressman’s wife said when Nate exposed the truth about his little trip. “You better not put up a fight or I will release those photos to everyone in your district.” Those must be some pretty interesting photos.
• Diane is ready to take down Gossip Girl, but can she really take on the anonymous blogger that is Gossip Girl? First she needs to understand how Gossip Girl works. Nate:” Gossip Girl doesn’t create scandal; she only whispers about what’s already out there.”
• Nate telling Diane to snoop through phones. Major no no. Diane: “Are you sure you didn’t work for News Corp.?”
• Ivy is ready to blackmail Carol to stay on the UES. But is this really a bad thing because Carol was ready to expose her too.
• Noah Shipiro outsmarted lonely boy this week. How genius was it that Noah tried to take credit for Dan’s book only to get him to admit that he wrote the book. The best thing was Dan admit this in front of all the right people. Noah: “Destiny is a very scary thing to face. We all need a little push.”
• “A part of me wanted it to be yours,” Blair says to Chuck. This would have gone in the so sweet section except Blair shouldn’t be saying things like this when she’s engaged…to a fabulous man that just happens to be a prince.

So Sweet
• Dan gives Chuck a dog as a thank you gift. How adorable, new bromance alert Duck is so on. Or is he trying to tell Chuck he is going to be a Dad?
Nate in a suit for an actual job.
• Nate telling Chuck to keep the dog, because he will not be around much, he doesn’t want his BFF to be lonely.
• Blair and Serena’s reunion, it’s been so long since we’ve seen these two together. Blair: “I thought I lost you to the land of poll dancing classes and gluten free foods.”
• Lily playing Angry Birds, how awesome because who does not love angry birds. Plus, Lily is so lonely because Eric is away. She misses her children.
• Serena setting up Charlie to walk in the show, how sweet now Ivy/Charlie gets her Cinderella moment. And the note to Charlie telling her to “live your dreams.”
• Rufus found a way to get Lily off of house arrest, he secretly misses going to the UES parties.
• Nate being a good friend and hiding Blair and Dan’s phones in Jenny Packham party phone heist 2011. One major scandal avoided for now.
• Dan being there for Blair throughout the episode and trying to support her when she found out the news on baby daddy.
• Blair: “That would be civilized. Unlike your hair Humphrey. You look like a Muppet.” So sweet because Blair said something to him in as nice a way Blair Waldorf could comment on something bad.
• Blair helping Charlie/Ivy with her “mom” situation. Blair: “It’s your life do what you want.” Otherwise, Charlie/Ivy probably would have high tailed it out of New York City back into the arms of her cute boyfriend Max. Maybe this isn’t sweet after all.
• Chuck left crying on his bed with his puppy Monkey after Blair tells him she’s pregnant. Will Monkey be able to help Chuck?
• The reporter may have told Blair that Louis wasn’t ready for a family, but he only said those things to protect Blair. She would be on constant “baby watch” if he didn’t say those things. AND Louis is very excited to be a father.

So Not Real
• Dorota calling Dan about Blair, since when are they buddies.
• Blair allowing Ivy/Charlie to stay with her, she currently has a number of secrets she wants to keep hidden and with Ivy/Charlie lurking around they will not stay secret for long.
• Blair being seen with Dan outside of a doctor’s office with her results, Blair is always in a Gossip Girl blast zone. She should be more careful.
• Nate being serious about working, this is new.
• Lily being off house arrest so soon, and the first this she does is go to a party.
• Giving up your cell phone at a cell phone check without locking it, that is how people find out your secrets.
• Blair letting Dan ruin her moment on the cat walk, Dan knows he knows better. “Humphries are not escort material.”
• Blair and Dan discussing something this major at a fashion event, Blair would never let something like this happen in such a public place where anyone could send in a blast to gossip girl.
• Serena still doesn’t know that Blair is pregnant. We all know when Serena finally finds out and finds that Dan knew before she did, she’s going to be angry.
