Gossip Girl Spinoff is Officially Dead

The CW has been on press tours promoting their new shows and Valley Girls/Lily has not made the cut. You may be thinking this is old news, but there was always a chance the show could be picked up for mid-season. The chances of that happening are over though because Dawn Ostroff, head of The CW said:

“I think there was a bit of a disadvantage, because we decided to do it that way instead of doing a full pilot. I think it was hard for everybody to understand what the world would be like on its own.”

But there is hope for another Gossip Girl spinoff. There is a spin off of Gossip Girl called The It Girl which centers around Jenny’s life away at boarding school and The CW might be interested in picking something like that up later.

If [executive producers] Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage would be open to it, of course we’d be open to it. There is a spinoff actually of the book series which is called The It Girl, and we’ve explored that with them. It’s been harder to find how you make that a world that’s well-rounded enough for us, because it takes place at a boarding school, and it’s very insular.
