Music from “Reversals of Fortune”

Sorry this music edition is coming a bit late, but school is whooping my behind. As always, you will hear some snippets of the choice songs on the podcast, but if you want to hear the whole songs from the episode, you have come to the right place!

1. The Rapture – “No Sex for Ben”
- played during the beginning Bluck scenes after Blair shoos away the blonde girl

The Rapture have been played in previous episodes of Gossip Girl, but nothing this beatific. This track is produced by Timbaland who puts his own unique touch on the beat. The song is also on the GTA IV soundtrack – specifically on “Radio Broker” with Juliette Lewis as the DJ. This whole station is very dance-punk and if you like this song, it may be worth your time to check out “Radio Broker” when you’re shooting some cops or beating some hos in GTA.

2. Time Machine – “Something We’re Becoming”
- played as Nate and Bree get off the helicopter

Time Machine feat. Maggie Horn – Something Were Becoming (Audio MP3 Stream)

This song is also in the same vein of “No Sex for Ben”; very upbeat and danceable. But at the same time, it was used in the episode as a very background song with a fast beat to set the tone of the beginning of the episode.

3. Miike Snow – “Plastic Jungle”
- played at the Archibald charity polo event

Where was Nate’s mother during all of this polo festivity? Miike Snow is not a person, but a Swedish band formed 2 years ago. Their debut album was released back in May and interestingly enough, GG didn’t choose to play the album’s single: “Animal”. “Plastic Jungle” fits nicer with the scene, but either way, both tracks are solid. If you listen to the RCRD LBL podcast, Miike Snow shouldn’t be anything new. You might have also have heard of Miike Snow in one of their other incarnations. The band is comprised of Andrew Wyatt and Bloodshy & Avant, the same Bloodshy & Avant that worked on:
- Christina Milian’s “AM to PM”
- Britney Spears’ “Toxic”
- Britney Spears’ “Piece of Me”

That’s right, “Piece of Me”. Part of the greatest concept album of 2007!

4. Matt & Kim – “Don’t Slow Down”
- played as Serena escapes the polo event on a horse with Carter in close pursuit

Yay, New York bands! Matt and Kim are an indie pop duo based out of Brooklyn, NY and are not a couple. Their brand of dance music is very minimal, but still catchy. In the episode, it sets a tone of freedom and fancy with Serena being photographed. This song comes off their latest album, “Grand”, which was released in January of this year. Although “Don’t Slow Down” is a good song, the real indie pop gem is “Daylight”, the single off their album.

5. Brakes – “Oh! Forever”
- played during the end montage

This song is a great closing song. Brakes (or Brakes times 3 in the US) is a four-piece outfit from Brighton, England. “Oh! Forever” comes off their third studio album, “Touchdown”, which was released earlier this year in April. Although, I can’t find a streaming version, you can easily find this track if you look hard enough. If you enjoyed this song, you might also want to check out similar bands, like British Sea Power or Maximo Park.
