Musings about Ed Westwick IV
Oh Ed Westwick. Another week of you in the news and I am more impressed with you.
GOSSIP GIRL stars ED WESTWICK and CHACE CRAWFORD have been plagued by women sending love letters – after fans discovered where they live. The actors share an apartment in New York, but their address was recently discovered by followers of the show who live in the same residential building. And Westwick admits they have been bombarded with notes from their lovesick neighbours.
He says, “I’ve been getting some weird mail, that’s for sure. Unfortunately, I have a situation now where Chace and I live in a residential building in New York and there have been a couple of nights where some of he girls who live there have obviously got a bit drunk and written love letters and slipped them under the door. We have one stuck up on the fridge. She goes on some rant about how she is not like other girls and I should give her a call and we should hang out.”
I love that Chace and Ed are getting love letters from fans. I mean, this whole entire Musings is basically just one huge loveletter to Ed from TGAD every week, but a line must be drawn somewhere. Like, who loves Chace Crawford? I mean, thats like loving a used package of underwear. There may be a sexy man on the front, but on the inside are skid marks. I also love the girls that are doing this. That must be a fun drinking game and VERY awkward moments in the elevator. What do the girls do if they catch Jessica in the elevator? I can just imagine Szhor taking off her earrings to throw down so she can stay with Ed. Plus, can these randoms compete with Jessica reading chick lit to Ed on plane rides? I am sure that must be a fascinating audio book rendition for like the dozen or so other people sitting in first class that can hear her.
How long do you think the Ed/Jessica relationship will last?
- Not long, I am hoping that Ed will read my love letter and choose me! (71%, 10 Votes)
- They're together? But Ed doesn't even talk about his relationship status. (29%, 4 Votes)
- Forever, their love was meant to be! (0%, 1 Votes)
Total Voters: 14
Whilst on the topic of Ed’s love-life, Ed has taken a firm stance on people who believe that he is romantically involved with Chace.
Westwick explained, “I hope so. I don’t think anyone with half a brain seriously thought there was anything in that… Some of the more gossipy magazines, take a hot topic and run with it but anyone who knows us knows we are just mates.
But Westwick prepared himself for the rumors and knows it part of the deal of acting. “[Gossip Girl] is based on a woman who spreads gossip on the internet, so I guess the concept of the show is stretching out into real life. People chop and change in their relationships. Life imitates art and art imitates life.”
Seriously, who would believe that Ed and Chace were romantically involved? Plus, I am of the belief that Chace is actually dating JC Chasez.
Ed said: “I’m a big fan of Elvis, man. I got ‘Heartbreak Hotel’ tattooed on my chest. Yeah, and I’ve got ’21 Grams,’ ‘Love Me Two Times,’ the song by the Doors. I have ‘You Make Me Feel Like the One’ across my shoulder.”
The 21-year-old actor also has ‘I Heart Romance’ emblazoned on his forearm, and revealed he got the inspiration for the tattoo from an unusual place. He said: “I saw it in a bathroom stall in a bar in Brooklyn. I thought it was cool, so I got it. I plan to get way more – they’re addictive. Get one. You’ll never look back. Live fast, die young. Be a good-looking corpse. Leave a good-looking tattoo.
Ed told Interview magazine: “Right now is a crucial time in terms of what decisions I make. I want to pursue other roles – I want to pursue different characters. I’ve been really, really pleased with what’s been happening, but I want to do other things. I’ve learned so much playing this character, but there’s so much more out there. You have to do things that excite you – you have to have a passion for your work. Otherwise you’re just a face on the screen. We’re trying to be raconteurs here – we’re trying to tell stories.”
When I first read this, I was like “NO WAY!!!”. I mean, we saw Ed’s chest in ep 2.21 where Chuck revealed a tuft of chest hair when trying to make love with the same girl that he did last year. But a simple Google search reveals the photo above. And it was also featured in that Rolling Stones article where the GG cast did some risqé photos with candy and beds. But, I respect that he’s bold enough to get a tattoo on his chest. Typically that means less jobs available, but Ed Westwick’s acting supercedes his tattoos. I don’t necessarily buy the character of Chuck having a tattoo however. This (coupled with the fact that Ed Westwick has a delightful chest jungle) is probably the reason why we do not see Chuck without a shirt on the show. I think we are better off for it. That much hair and tattoos must be too much for America. Plus, logistically speaking, did Ed have to shave that area before he could put on a tattoo?
Speaking of that Rolling Stones article, that statement about living fast and dying young sounds suspiciously familiar to what Savage said about Schwartz’s style of story telling.
But I really respect Ed that he is able to enjoy his character. I’ve said this before, but when the actor has an issue with the character (as was the case with Conor Paolo and Penn Badgley), the respect is lost. If the craft is not enjoyed, then it becomes obvious to the audience. Penn plays Dan as self-righteous and that is mostly likely derived from someone’s attitude towards the show. And Conor, well he doesn’t want to play the character, so he just doesn’t appear on screen. With Chuck, there is more substance there and the actor delivers his roles. He can play PI and he can play scorned lover and he can play abandoned son very well. For all the characters, the progression in where we see Chuck from the beginning versus his current manifestation has been the most dramatic. This comes from the writing, but it wouldn’t be believable/acceptable if it came from a sub-par actor. Westwick’s passion for his character and his aspirations to do better are clear from the above quote.
Remember Michelle? She was on Episode #29: Bass Rape and Clusterblucks. Well she dropped me a line that Ed Westwick is set to star as Heathcliff in the movie remake of Emily Brontë’s “Wuthering Heights”.
I enjoy any Bronte sister. I actually have a hardbound anthology with a ribbon bookmark of all the Brontë sister’s works. I am particularly partial to “Jane Eyre”, but “Wuthering Heights” is just as good. The film is set to have the same screenplay writer as “The Girl with a Pearl Earring”, which I also enjoyed – book and movie. I have feeling that that means this movie remake will be nothing short of spectacular. I have two issues though:
(1) In the source, Buzz Sugar says that the movie will be steering away from “stuffy costume drama”. Are you kidding me? I love me a good bustier, so I want those period piece costumes. And lots of the furtive glaces and coy stares between lovers that shouldn’t be together.
(2) Westwick is a little over 6 months older than me. 21 does not read as mature. I guess he could play older given that Chuck Bass does sometimes act like a 50 year old business man, but I am willing to try it out.

Since they are using an all British cast for the movie, we will get to hear more of his accent. Also set to star in the movie is one of the Bond girls from the shitbox (holla Erin!) Quantum of Solace. Gemma Arterton played Strawberry Fields in Quantum, to follow Bond and escort him back to the Consulate after going rogue, but tragically ended up dead due to oil coating. I am not certain how that happens as Christina Milian didn’t nary a fear whilst writhing in it for “Dip it Low”. Either way, Arterton is set to star as Catherine Earnshaw, the foster sister of Heathcliff and female protagonist of the book. To avoid spoiling the relationship of Cathy and Heathcliff, here is Kate Bush’s rendition of “Wuthering Heights”. 80s flashback time!
And to follow up on last week’s Musings, Eddy did not take Sasha or Melia as his date to the White House Correspondent’s Dinner. He took his MOM! He took his mother and she got her picture taken with Tom Cruise? ISN’T HE SO SWEET? My mother embarrasses me at events, so I would have been slightly hesitant to take my mom as my date. Ed Westwick is simply a better man than I.

what if they end up killing chuck in the future? or having him be killed and blair be sad and then it all be a ruse to protect himself from something dangerous, he is gonna be worth a zillion dollars, and then they could bring jack back! i hope this doesn’t sound like a fan fic. i kind of would like to see this in the future, you could have a whole continuous story for the writers!! what a novel concept.
