Commentary on ‘The Goodbye Gossip Girl’
First of all, I want to say thank you to Angela, Missy and Dave for letting me join the TGAD family! Onto my commentary on 2×25 ‘The Goodbye Gossip Girl’!
I really enjoyed Serena in the episode! I usually can’t stand to sit through her scenes because of her stupidity but this time, she served a purpose and was used well in the episode. The Blair and Serena breakfast scene had me cracking up! When Serena got in the limo and the paparazzi was there, Blair turned around and posed for them which make a very cute moment.
Nate and Vanessa.. how many times can we go back and forth with these two? They’re turning into the new Dan and Serena and I’m sick of it. Why haven’t we explored Nate/Serena, Dan/Vanessa or Nate/Jenny? I feel like we’re being cheated by not having Nate & Serena together. they seem to be foreshadowing it in the last 5 or so episodes but no.. he’s going to be with Vanessa again. On the upside, Vanessa was less annoying than usual and didn’t make me want to slap her every time she appeared on the screen.
Dan being left off the graduation program was hilarious but as if that would happen in real life! They would have to have a senior class list, right?
Jonathon hacked into the Gossip Girl server. This was so lame and it makes me wonder who they’ve got writing these episodes! It was so stupid and unnecessary. Apparently Eric dyes his hair? LOL.
I really enjoyed the Jenny ‘Queen’ storyline this week! I like it when Jenny and Blair interact because they seem to really care for each other while continuing the banter between the two of them. Emma seemed really different from last time we saw her and I was a little confused by the way Blair treated her. I thought they were friends (or something) last time but now we pick up 16 episodes later and we get evil stares and mean words.
It was hilarious when Jenny said ‘no more headbands’ or something like that to the minions. Jenny needs to get her cute look back from season one when she took over from Blair. Her current hair, make-up and clothing situation is perfect for scaring little kids but not for living on the UES!
Georgina doesn’t need to be mentioned. Her part was minimal, at best and was totally unneccessary. They should’ve used her properly or not at all. As for Scott.. the whole thing is really frustrating! Why can’t he
Lily and Rufus got engaged. Anyone care? Surprisingly, I didn’t want to stab out my eyes whenever they came on to the screen. Lily should be thanking God right now that she didn’t end up with that ugly ring that Rufus bought and then sold again. The one she ended up with in the end is perfect! Clean, simple, classic.. I loved when Lily came to the loft with the ~mystery bag~ and said she got it out of Chuck’s room so it must be good, so hilarious! They were smoking weed, right?
As for Blair and Chuck, they broke my heart throughout the entire episode up until the end. Their interaction at the gathering after graduation was so amazing. It was obvious to anyone watching that they wanted to say they loved each other but it was simply too hard and a bit of an awkward place to say it. The middle scene at Nate’s part where Blair is asking Chuck how he feels about her coat, headband, stockings and dress and then finally about her.. I was hoping they wouldn’t get interrupted! What do you guys think, would he have said he loves her or not? After the blast goes out about Jack & Vanessa, Chuck acts as if he’s angry and Blair says that he’s not angry at her about Jack, just like she isn’t mad at him about Vanessa and continues to tell Chuck she loves him so much and it consumes her. I started crying in that scene because Leighton & Ed act the parts so well. It was a little sweet, heartbreaking and a really touching moment between the two of them. I wished Chuck wouldn’t keep denying his feelings and breaking Blair’s heart but in the end, it worked. When everyone meets at the bar afterwards, Blair apologies to Serena and tells her that things with Chuck are over and then out of the corner of her eye, she sees Chuck and it was instantly obvious to me that both their hearts were breaking and Chuck was being a coward. Ok so finally I get to talk about the end scene, my favourite part of the episode! Blair is walking down the street and Chuck is waiting by his limo (with extremely weird posture), holding flowers and gifts to give to Blair. He says that he’s gone to France and other places to get her favourite things – such as macaroons, stockings… and a lot of other sweet things to say when finally he says ‘I love you too.’ This of course had millions of girls around the globe falling even more in love with Chuck than before!
Out of the whole episode, my favourite interaction (other than Chuck & Blair) was Blair and Eleanor! It was really great to see Eleanor acting like Blair’s mother which we haven’t seen a lot of in the show so far. I feel like the only relationship that has changed in the whole show since the Pilot is Blair/Eleanor. In the pilot, Blair had virtually no parents, no guardians (other than Dorota) or anybody to care about and look after her but now, we have a cute parental moment followed by a hug! It was a really nice change and development for the character of Eleanor. I wish we got a little more Cyrus though!
As a season finale, it was a little disappointing but the Blair/Chuck scenes and the hanging plot points for next season saved it for me. Overall, I give the episode 4.228 i love you(s) out of 5.
Please let me know if I missed anything & share your thoughts on the episode!

I know this season is OVER, but…
i looked at http://cwtv.com/shows/gossip-girl
the official GG site on the cw and there is a note saying
next episode: june, 1 “headback to the hamptons”
are they serious?????
when you click on the note you get directed to the summary of 2.01, so it could be a classic fault, BUT, 2.01 aired sep, 1 2008.
so, will there be a episode on june, 1???
i don’t really think so… i wish!, but maybe it is just a lookback on season 2 episode one, misleading thing. misleading publicity is kind of gossip girl’s thing. like those pics of blair kissing chuck and nate at two different times in the same outfit! turns out they were all a ruse! good thing for spoiler junkies! cause you can’t wait to see it play out for real and then it happen totally differently!
how did you join this family erin?
i wanna join too!
